Well said - as a journal editor who is asked to submit articles for authors, the system is very daunting and not so much user hostile as user-apathetic!

Three cheers from me on this one! Publishers' online reviews and submissions websites are one reason (admittedly among several) I gave away being a journal editor. Fortunately, one of the journals I review for most regularly still accepts book reviews by email, so I have pleasant and civilized chats with the review editor instead of going round and round in circles resetting yet another version of one of my passwords and clicking on twenty boxes before I upload the document, and even then it isn't finished....

I refuse to review through portals. On submissions I duck the problem by asking co-authors to handle it.
